Key concept: Language is better caught than taught. When we learn our first language, verbal skills come first, and then we learn to read and write in the language we already speak. That's what's "natural" about NLA, which, based on what we now know about neuroplasticity, allows us to take advantage of the brain benefits of bilingualism at any age.
